5 Inexpensive Ways to Entertain Your Kids This Summer

Summer is here and the kids are done with school for the next few months. Here are some great ways to entertain your kids of various ages at home without spending a ton of money in the process.

1. Turn on that sprinkler! Save some money and instead of visiting the local pool, turn on your own sprinkler that you water your garden with. It should entertain your kids and their friends.

2. Have a picnic without leaving your house. Simply make some sandwiches, cut up some yummy summertime favorites like watermelon and strawberries, grab some juice boxes or water and head outside. Grab an old quilt or beach towels and make a large area for your little ones to sit on.

3. Run a neighborhood iced tea or lemonade stand. Grab a small table, make a quick sign and mix up some drinks. Your kids will love that they can make a few dollars and they learn the value of money.

4. Make an obstacle course. You can use your existing outdoor toys like your sandbox, swing set, baby pool and bikes to create an obstacle course your kids will love. You can even go as far as to award prizes to the kids who perform the best at each obstacle - like swing the highest or make the best sandbox. Just grab some computer paper, a marker and some scissors and make quick prize ribbons that you can stick on with double sided tape.

5. A fun nighttime activity is to grab some chairs and head outside with old spaghetti sauce jars and try to collect fireflies - kids are amazed and so are adults at how cool those little bugs can be! Just make sure to poke some holes in the lids for the bugs and to release them the next morning.
6. Another fun nighttime activities is to watch a movie outside. If you work in an office, borrow a projector that you can hook up to your laptop, hang a sheet on the side of your house, and throw some blankets and pillows outside to watch a movie. For those areas where the bugs are too annoying at night, try putting up a tent outside and projecting on the side of the tent. Outdoor movies are Instant fun for kids of all ages.

These are just a few ways to keep your summer days fun, cool off a bit and enjoy the summer the economical way.
